PM e-Learning

Question: How can I learn more about Project Management?

So, you’re interested in learning more about Project Management (PM). Awesome!

But now you’re wondering where to go next, right? Here are some ideas.

Answer: First learn some basics from experience PMs

You could go right to the PMBOK and start prepping the CAPM or PMP exams. That’ll work. But you may not end up with a lot of “understanding.”

I think that you’ll be more satisfied and more successful if you undertake a more general study first. Learn from experienced PMs. Read some overview, introductory books. Get a feel for PM end-to-end. Then go for the certifications; they’ll make more sense and be more complementary to your knowledge.

So how do you find the experienced PMs?

learn.pmstudent.comWell, you’ve already started — you’re reading some PM blogs. Good start.

One of my favorites is  Project Management e-Learning. Josh Nankivel, who has been helping PM students for years at PMStudent.com, just launched this new service for PM students. And I think he’s hit the mark just right!

At Project Management e-Learning, you’ll find learning videos that cover Project Management skills end-to-end. You’ll also find lots of opportunity to ask questions and talk with Josh and other PMs and PM students online.  Check it out at http://learn.pmstudent.com/dap/a/?a=9.  I recommend it.

Josh is easy to listen to. He’s got a comfortable cadence when he records these videos for you. You’ll enjoy his experience, examples, walk-throughs, explanations.

And Josh is a master at fostering conversation, so the site provides lots of places to ask questions and make comments. Ask a really good question, and you may end up being referenced in one of his videos!

Can’t I just Google for the things I need to know?

Sure. I did. Many have. But wandering around takes a little time. Working with an experienced PM like Josh will save you lots of wandering.

With Project Management e-Learning, you’ll spend more time learning and less time wandering. Then when you do go Google something, you’ll be able to find what you need faster.

Good luck on your exploration of PM. Tell me where I can help.
